Course Description:
Welding provides the knowledge, skills, and technologies required for employment in metal technology systems. Students develop knowledge and skills related to job specific training for entry-level employment in welding careers. This is NCCER course combined with the core curriculum. Topics include: welding safety, oxyfuel cutting; base metal preparation; SMAW Equipment and setup; SMAW – Electrodes and Selection; SMAW – Beads and Fillet training program. The Core Curriculum is the foundation for all further advanced training in the individual crafts or trades. Topics include: Basic Safety; Introduction to Construction Math; Introduction to Hand Tools, Introduction to Power Tools; Introduction to Blueprints; Basic Rigging. Students need to meet the expectation of the CTC training facility. Meeting with parents and student will be conducted to review the expectations of a career as a welder and the commitment to the training site as well as to the school district. Physical Requirements: Drug Screen Required Help; Move heavy equipment; Assist in positioning and fastening project; Ability to work in confined spaces; Carry material and tools from location to location or from floor to floor; Work from extension ladders and scaffolds; Work under hot and cold weather conditions; Lift and work with tools and equipment above head. Upon successful completion of all written and performance modules, the student will be awarded a Craft Training Center SMAW Term One Certificate of Completion.

Course Description:
Course is taught at the 8th grade for high school credit. TEKS for high school keyboarding: Student applies the proper keyboarding technique to input data when using the computer or typewriter keyboard; format and print documents such as personal and business letters, short reports, outlines, and compositions; applies correct techniques for the touch-system of operating the keyboard to develop speed and accuracy. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communications, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment.
