Visit from World War II Veteran Wes Plummer

The students of Robstown High School were honored to have Wes Plummer visit the campus on March 3rd, 2011.  Mr. Plummer is a veteran of the World War II battle at Iwo Jima.  He spent 36 days on Iwo Jima as a machine-gunner for the U.S. Marine Corps.  He recounted his memories and feelings to the students about the battle, which resulted in more than 6,000 deaths of his fellow troops.  Mr. Plummer  showed the students a slideshow presentation with pictures and maps showing the students what it was like to be fighting on that island.  He described the battle for Mount Suribachi which was one of the most deadly 36-day battles of World War II.  He told the students that  one-third of all the Marine Corps deaths during World War II happened during that battle.
